The history of coffee enemas goes back much further than one might think. As early as 1866, Dr. M.A. Cachot published (pages 9, 239-240) in the Pacific Medical and Surgical Journal  A documented case of rectal coffee use with remarkable results. This is one of the first official medical mentions of this practice. The story is fascinating and worth reading.

This was not an isolated case. In 1896, Dr. W.J. Mayo, one of the founders of the renowned Mayo Clinic, mentioned coffee enemas as a routine treatment for patients recovering from surgery.
